Our Winter Phase
The HUB Winter Phase consists of 24 five hour Saturday classroom sessions at Cranbrook Kingswood School from September to May. Each participant will be assigned to classes in English and math/science based on skill level. Each class is scheduled for 70 minutes. Instruction is provided to develop strengths and overcome weaknesses while it focuses on basic concepts, test-taking strategies, and test-taking skills. Senior participants will have mandatory financial literacy class. Junior participants will have mandatory ACT preparation class.

Transportation
All program participants will be retrieved from and returned to designated locations in the target area via CKHUB provided bus transportation.
Cranbrook Tutors
The Cranbrook Kingswood Horizons-Upward Bound Tutor Club consists of the boarding and day students from Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School. They volunteer 3 hours during regular HUB Saturdays to assist and tutor the HUB students with any and all subject courses! The CKHUB Tutor Club altogether accrued 450 hours for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Mandatory Study Hall
A grade-level study hall is scheduled during the academic day in an effort to assist in completing homework assignments and enhance academic skills.
ACT Preparation
Each participant will be provided with practice tests and strategic skills for taking the ACT. Participants will learn strategies/techniques to use on standardized tests- improving test-taking skills to enhance test scores.
Meals
A hot nutritious brunch will be provided for each program participant. It is important to focus on enriching the whole child, educating their minds as well as developing healthy eating habits.
Honors Ceremony and Alumni Induction
A special event to signify the graduation of the Senior class and welcome them into the HUB Alumni Association. At this ceremony seniors are given special awards and recognition for successes during their HUB years. Other grade levels are also recognized for their academic achievement in school the past year, students with Grade Point Averages of 3.0 and above are awarded certificates and Honor pins.
